I’m sure you’ve all heard of the great Michael Strahan – the American NFL (National Football League) defensive end and media personality. Everyone knows of his superb skills in tackling, but did you ever wonder what NFL team did the amazing athlete play for?
Well, the answer to that question is the New York Giants. Michael Strahan had an impressive career with the New York Giants, playing from 1993 to 2007 – yes, a whopping fourteen glorious years!
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for him though, in his first season with the Giants, he found himself playing on special teams due to the Giants already having a star defensive end. Yet, the next year he earned his starting spot, and he never looked back!
The New York Giants were incredibly lucky to have such an amazing player on their team. Strahan was an almost unstoppable force in the Defensive Line, and he racked up double-digit sacks in seven of his fourteen seasons with the Giants. Oh, and let’s not forget that he made the Pro Bowl four times — and even won Defensive Player of the Year in 2001.
It almost seemed like Strahan was a part of the New York Giants from the very start. He made a real impact on the team, and the team had just as much of an impact on him. He learnt to be a leader, never giving up and always pushing forward. His relentless attitude and persistence was something the New York Giants fans had never seen before, and it truly was something special.
It’s safe to say that Michael Strahan had a very successful career with the Giants, and during these fourteen years he truly made a name for himself. One of his most famous accomplishments with the team was breaking the single-season sack record in 2001, as he finished the season with 22.5 sacks. That was an incredible feat, for sure!
He also was the defensive catalyst for the Giants in their stunning comeback against the highly favored then-undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. It’s an iconic moment of NFL history that can never be forgotten – or of course, Strahan’s individual success with the NY Giants.
From end zone sacks and interceptions to being named to the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team, Strahan did it all in his fourteen years with the Giants. He won two NFC Championships, and was part of one of the most memorable Super Bowls of all time – I think it’s fair to say that Michael Strahan had an unforgettable career with the Giants!
It’s always a sad occasion when a player decides to part ways with a club after being with them for a long time, but thankfully we can look back on the glorious moments Michael had in New York and cherish them. He was an integral part of the Giants’ success throughout his career, and he can always be proud of that.
He’s even now part of the Giants’ Ring of Honor, where he is commemorated alongside many of his matchless teammates. It’s a fitting honour for an NFL great like Strahan, proving that he will always remain a part of NY Giants lore, even if he’s no longer on the team.
