Well my friend, as an NFL fan I’m sure you’ve heard about the gear that NFL players wear under their shoulder pads. Believe it or not, some of it is pretty fancy! Personally I think that the extra protection and comfort that they get from wearing it is just what the players need for success.
First off, let’s discuss the shoulder pads that the NFL players have to wear. Shoulder pads protect the player’s body by providing extra cushioning for blows and protecting the shoulder area. As additional protection, the NFL usually requires a few more pieces of protection like a neck roll, a chest protector and rib protectors. All of these items help to disperse the force from hits and collisions during the game.
But, even with all the extra protection offered by the shoulder pads, the NFL players need something special to help them stay comfortable. That’s where we come to what the NFL players are allowed to wear underneath their shoulder pads. This is usually a compression shirt along with other pieces of padding to help absorb shock and provide extra protection.
The compression shirt provides a snugger fit than the shoulder pads, allowing the player to move around with ease. The fabric is engineered to provide a second layer of protection against the heat and sweat that would usually occur during the game. There are also small pieces of padding on the sides that help to keep the shoulder pads from slipping during those hard tackles. This makes the compression shirt that much more important to the NFL players as it helps to keep them comfortable and ready to play.
Aside from the compression shirt, the NFL players are allowed to wear various other pieces of clothing such as hand wraps and orthopedic sleeves. The wraps help to protect the players’ wrists and palms, so they don’t suffer any long-term damage from jamming their hands into the other player’s bodies during tackling. Orthopedic sleeves can also be worn, helping protect the knees and shins from those hard tackles.
And last, but certainly not least, some NFL players even add protective gloves to their look for extra protection and grip when handling the ball. I think that is pretty awesome, don’t you?
When it comes to what NFL players can wear underneath their shoulder pads there is no shortage of options. From compression shirts and hand wraps to orthopedic sleeves and protective gloves, the NFL players are able to truly protect themselves and stay safe during the game. It’s no wonder why they look so good out on the field!
