I’m sure you’ve heard about Damar Hamlin, the rookie defensive back for the Buffalo Bills. He was drafted by the team in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and since then, he’s been quite the phenom!
The moment I saw him make his first tackle in the pre-season, I thought to myself: “this kid has star potential written all over him”. He’s an excellent cornerback, with his lightning-fast acceleration and ability to read the offense. On top of that, he’s developed a great chemistry with the team, already having earned the respect of veterans like Micah Hyde and Lorenzo Alexander.
I’ve been thoroughly impressed with Damar’s performance thus far. He’s quickly become one of the most reliable cornerbacks on the team, not only playing well against the pass but also showing a prowess in run defense. He’s collected two interceptions already, both of them returned for a touchdown.
What truly makes Damar stand out, however, is his character. He never fails to bring a sense of joy and enthusiasm to the team. It seems like he has a positive attitude no matter the situation. He celebrates touchdowns, catches and sacks like they were his own, and is always there to encourage his teammates.
Even more remarkable is his humility. During an interview, he credited his growth as an NFL player not to his own talents and capabilities, but to the help of the coaching staff. He’d also go on to thank the veterans for their guidance and unwavering support.
On a game day, Damar is a force to be reckoned with. He always seem to be everywhere, causing everything from pass breakups to turnovers. His presence alone is enough to make opposing quarterbacks think twice before throwing in his direction.
I honestly can’t wait to see how the rest of the season plays out for Damar. I’m sure his performance will only continue to improve, as he’s still so young and has tremendous potential. I think he’s an example of what hard work and dedication can do, and he’s still only getting started.
