It’s something that we don’t always think about – while the NFL has seen its share of female coaches, lawyers, and more, are there any female NFL owners? For me, this question has taken on a personal meaning, since I’m female and passionate about football.​ And I’m here to share what I’ve learned on this journey.​

First of all, in the past couple of decades, the NFL has seen its share of female owners.​ The first female owner of an NFL team was Martha Firestone Ford, when she inherited the ownership of the Detroit Lions in 2015.​ Soon, others followed.​ Virginia Halas McCaskey, the daughter of former Bears owner, George Halas, became the majority owner of the Chicago Bears in 1983.​ And Sheila Ford Hamp, Martha Firestone Ford’s daughter, took over the Detroit Lions in 2018.​

That said, the number of female NHL owners is still very small.​ Afterall, the total number of NFL teams stands at 32, and only three of them have female spearheads.​ This means that the percentage of female NFL owners is just one percent.​

Yet while this number might seem low, it does indicate progress.​ Before Ford, Halas McCaskey, and Hamp, there were only two women with a significant stake in an NFL franchise.​ In 1957, Helen Winter Yaussy became the co-owner of the Baltimore Colts.​ Six years later, Corinne Griffith bought the Washington Redskins.​

Interestingly, the number of female sports team owners isn’t limited to the NFL.​ There are several NBA and MLB team owners, too.​ The most notable female sports owner is probably Jeanie Buss, the majority owner of the Los Angeles Lakers.​

At the end of the day, though, these female owners are still too few.​ The number of women staying at the leadership table and having a say in the strategic decision-making still remains alarmingly low.​ We also see the same story in all other professional sports leagues.​

This isn’t something we should accept with open arms, though.​ On the contrary, we should stand to fight for a more inclusive and gender equal sports landscape.​ Supporting female sports owners is a great place to start.​ But more needs to be done to make sure that women have a say and equal opportunities in sports.​

Football has always been a cornerstone of the American family.​ It brings people together, unites them around a common passion.​ It has provided some of my happiest memories.​ But to make sure this passion stays alive, we need to make sure that people from all backgrounds have a say in its development.​

This means creating powerful role models for children growing up, letting them know that it doesn’t matter what gender you are.​ Women can do the same things as men.​ We need to recognize female excellence, to create a world where gender doesn’t dictate who gets to be an NFL owner.​

My journey to answer the question “are there any female NFL owners?” revealed one important thing.​ Sure, there are a few female owners in the NFL, but there are still plenty of opportunities for more.​ There are many talented and qualified women out there, who have the potential to be the Joe Montanas and Roger Goodells of the NFL.​ We just need to give them a chance to prove it.​

It’s no secret that the NFL is home to some of the greatest athletes from America and around the world.​ And while it’s also true that African Americans make up the majority of professional football players, many people don’t know just how many actually make up the NFL.​ Well, it’s a lot more than you might think!

I remember when I was a kid, I’d watch NFL games on TV with my dad on Sundays.​ We’d marvel at the athleticism and skill of the players.​ But I wasn’t aware how many of them were African American.​ As it turns out, 70% of NFL players are African Americans!

That’s a pretty astounding statistic.​ You’d think with such a large percentage, there would at least be token African American players on each team, but that’s usually not the case at all.​ A lot of times, it’s just one or two African Americans on each team.​ That’s why when you see a team with a lot of African Americans, it’s a little bit of a surprise.​

Still, 70% is a huge number for African American players in the league.​ I think it speaks to just how talented these players are and how hard they’ve worked to get to the NFL.​ And to think, a lot of these men are first generation NFL players.​ Talk about the American dream!

It’s definitely a testament to hard work because it wasn’t always that way.​ When the NFL first started its professional league, the vast majority of players were white.​ To see that now African American players make up the majority is just amazing.​ It really shows how far we’ve come as a country and how much progress we’ve made as a society.​

Man, I can’t believe the 2016 season was De’Anthony Thomas’ last in the NFL.​ It seems like just yesterday I was a 15 year old kid watching him ball out at Oregon.​ To say that he had an impressive run in the NFL would be a huge understatement.​

He was an electric player who brought the crowd to its feet with his thrilling runs and big plays.​ I remember the game against the Patriots in 2015 where he had a 70 yard punt return for a touchdown – man, it was something else! Of course, he wasn’t just there to put up gaudy numbers.​ His ability to stretch the field with his speed forced defenses to open up the middle of the field, opening up the offense for the other playmakers.​

But the 2016 season was a disappointment.​ He only suited up for four games, and when the Chiefs decided to move on from him in the offseason, it all but ended his time in the NFL.​

It’s a shame that he didn’t have more of an opportunity to shine.​ But, I mean, given the way his career ended, I’m happy for him.​ He got the chance to contribute to a team that won the Super Bowl two years in a row, and that’s something that many players don’t get to experience.​

I know that his 2016 season didn’t go as planned, but I hope De’Anthony Thomas can look back on his time in the NFL and appreciate all the good times he had.​ He was a special player who electrified us all with his incredible speed and playmaking ability.​ I’m sure that wherever he lands, he’ll succeed and make us all proud.​

I think one of the best things about De’Anthony is that he isn’t afraid to bet on himself.​ He went from the gridiron to the stage, and he’s doing it all while staying true to himself.​ I’m really proud of the work he’s put in and the accomplishments he’s achieved post-NFL.​ It’s a testament to his resilience and work ethic.​

In addition to his music career, De’Anthony Thomas is also a highly sought after celebrity endorser.​ He’s become somewhat of a trailblazer in this regard, and he’s worked with some major brands like Red Bull and Beats by Dre.​ I feel like he’s really been able to showcase his personality and influence through these partnerships.​

And it doesn’t stop there! He recently announced that he was working on a new book about his life and his journey in the NFL.​ I can’t wait to get my hands on it and dive into his story.​ I’m sure that he’s going to inspire a whole new generation of athletes and entrepreneurs with his work.​

As if that wasn’t enough,

De’Anthony Thomas also recently started his own podcast called the Grind Squad Super Show.​ It’s an audio extension of his blog and he covers topics ranging from football to entrepreneurship to social issues.​ It’s really cool to see him using his platform and voice to inspire and motivate others.​

Finally, he’s started a full stack development bootcamp called Code & Chrome – the goal being to help empower more people to become tech entrepreneurs.​ I think this is a great way for De’Anthony to give back to the community, providing a platform for people to succeed in tech and business.​

I’m so proud of the work De’Anthony Thomas has done post-NFL.​ He didn’t let his departure from the league be a stopping point for him – instead, he’s used it as a launching pad for greatness.​ He’s become an inspiring example of how to turn seemingly negative situations into opportunity, and I’m excited to see what he does in the years to come.​

It’s officially football season! Each year, I get really excited about all the games that the NFL is going to bring.​ For the past few years, I have given an extra bit of attention to the number of games in an NFL season.​ But have you ever wondered how many games are actually in an NFL season? Well, I’m here to tell you all about it.​

This past season, there were 256 total games played and it was considered to be a regular season.​ That means that every team played sixteen games throughout the season.​ For each of those sixteen games, eight of them were played away from their home stadium and eight of them were played in their home stadium.​ That’s actually a great deal considering there are teams playing in all fifty states in the US so traveling can get crazy.​

However, the regular season isn’t the only set of games that get played.​ There are also the playoff games.​ Each year, there’s the division champions, wild card teams, conference championships, the pro bowl, and finally the Super Bowl.​ That’s an extra seven games that get to be added to the total of the 256 regular season games.​ Usually it’s the round of eight teams competing for the Super Bowl.​ But this year, there were fourteen teams competing for the Super Bowl, making for an extra five games.​

It’s actually really crazy to think about the number of games that an NFL season holds.​ I mean, it’s a lot of games and a lot of travelling for each team.​ So it would make sense that the teams go out of their way to help the environment by choosing buses or trains over flying.​ It’s also awesome that the NFL dedicated itself to the green initiative.​

On the other hand, with the extra games added for the playoffs, the season lasts a bit longer than usual.​ I mean, just when you thought it was safe to put away the foam finger and your lucky jersey, another set of games pops up! Which means that if you’re a die hard football fan like me, you’ve got to be standing by with your game face ready.​

Knowing the amount of games in an NFL season is really helpful, especially if you want to plan for the entire season.​ And if you’re a betting man, it’s helpful too! But for us regular folk out here, it’s just important to be prepared for the extra games during the playoffs and just enjoy football season while it lasts.​

And speaking of enjoying football season, what better way to do so than by throwing a football party? A football party is a great way to invite your closest friends over, have some drinks and munchies and watching your favorite team! You don’t even have to keep tally of the games anymore, because you already know how many games are in an NFL season.​

Sometimes all you need to do for an awesome football party is to set up some couches, a few chairs, a TV and an obviously the snacks.​ Get creative by having actual footballs as decorations or have a football themed photobooth.​ Even if you have a smaller space, it’s still doable; just make sure you have enough seating for your guests and good snacks for everyone to enjoy.​

The best part about NFL season is that there’s always something new happening in the world of sports.​ Whether it’s a new record getting broken, a surprise team winning, or just the buzz of excitement when a game is close, it’s always exciting to see what’s going to happen next.​ Some might even say it’s as thrilling as a roller coaster ride, but I’ll leave that for you to decide.​

As I’ve come to learn, every game that’s played has an effect on the end of the season, and it’s important for teams to make the most out of each game.​ It’s like each game counts and that only makes the season more interesting and exciting.​ There’s something special about this number of games, and I don’t think I’ll be able to look at a season quite as the same after this year.​

Nowadays, teams are integrating fan experience into their sport, creating unique and interactive experiences for fans.​ Fans can have their posts shared on the scoreboard, have individual shoutouts, and they can even watch a game from the field.​ Before, just watching the games on the TV was enough to be immersed in the action.​ But now, teams understand that a fan experience goes beyond just that.​

And after the season ends, there’s the draft.​ To me, this is where the whole cycle begins again.​ We get to see brand new teams, brand new stadiums, brand new uniforms and above all, brand new faces running the show.​ It’s really amazing how everything comes full circle.​

Overall, there may be 256 games in an NFL season, but there’s really no telling what’s going to happen until it’s all said and done.​ I think the biggest takeaway here really is that no matter what, we can look forward to a fresh start!
